A planning method

Future Log

The Bullet Journal's future log: six months with a few lines each, for dates too far ahead for this week's pages.

The Bullet Journal

The Bullet Journal is a way of keeping a planner on paper, made by the designer Ryder Carroll and shared online in 2013. He set it out in full in his book The Bullet Journal Method (2018). It is built from a few plain parts: a daily log, a monthly log, an index and the future log.

The future log

The future log sits at the front of the notebook and holds anything that belongs to a later month: a birthday in May, a renewal in September, a trip already booked.

When a new month begins, you look at its part of the future log and copy what is there onto that month's pages. Carroll calls this moving of entries from one place to another migration.

How the module works

Six months with three lines each, once at the front of the book. The months are the book's own, so a book that starts in October lists October to March. Write the date beside each entry, and check the log whenever you turn to a new month.
